Frequently Asked Questions

Is your popcorn Non-GMO?
All of our popcorn is Non-GMO.

How should I store my popcorn?
Place popcorn in a container with a tight lid, then store in a cool, dry place such as a pantry. Do not store in a freezer or refrigerator as this may dry out the kernels.

What is the shelf life of popcorn kernels?
Popcorn has an indefinite shelf life as long as it is stored in ideal conditions. However for best results, we recommend using it within one year from purchase.

What makes popcorn pop?
Ideally, each popcorn kernel contains about 13 percent moisture. As it is heated up, the moisture inside turns into steam and expands, eventually reaching an explosion point (pop).

My popcorn doesn’t pop like it used to. What’s wrong?
As popcorn ages, it tends to lose needed moisture. That is why it needs to be stored properly. (Try sprinkling a little water over the kernels, shake, then let them set in an air tight container for at least a day before using.)

Do you have hull-less popcorn?
All popcorn must have a hull to pop. Some varieties of popcorn may have hulls that break up better upon popping, but there is no such variety as “hull-less” popcorn.

What is the shelf life of PopStar oil?
The published shelf life of PopStar is one year. We recommend using the oil within a year from purchase, but the oil will remain useable after that time.

How much popcorn and oil should I use together?
We recommend a 3 to 1 ratio of popcorn to our PopStar oil. For example, 3 tablespoons popcorn to 1 tablespoon oil per batch. One qt. of PopStar oil will pop approximately 6 lbs. of popcorn; a gallon, approximately 24 lbs. of popcorn. A 6 qt. popcorn popper will ideally use a half a cup of kernels and 2 tbsp. of oil.

How much popped corn will a 2 lb. bag of kernels yield?
A 2 lb. bag of our popcorn will pop approximately 28 qts. (112 cups) of popcorn.

How much popped popcorn does a 1 oz. bag hold? A #2 bag?
Approximately 4 cups of popcorn. Approximately 6.5 cups of popcorn.

Does PopStar Popping Oil contain dairy products?
Our PopStar popping oil is produced in a dairy free environment and does not contain any type of dairy or milk product. The butter flavoring used in PopStar oil is considered non-allergenic.
